Complaints and Appeals

The European Journal of Medical Practitioners (EJMP) is committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability throughout the editorial and publication process. The journal welcomes complaints and appeals relating to editorial decisions, peer review, publication ethics, and journal procedures. All complaints and appeals are handled confidentially, impartially, and in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Appeals Against Editorial Decisions

Authors who believe that a manuscript has been rejected due to a misunderstanding, factual error, or procedural concern may submit a formal appeal to the Editorial Office.

An appeal should include:

  • The manuscript title and reference number.
  • A detailed explanation of the reason for the appeal.
  • A point-by-point response addressing the editorial and reviewer comments, where applicable.
  • Any additional supporting evidence relevant to the appeal.

The appeal will be reviewed independently by the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately designated editor. Additional expert reviewers may be consulted if necessary. The decision reached after the appeal review shall be considered final.

Complaints

The journal accepts complaints concerning matters including, but not limited to:

  • Editorial decisions.
  • Delays in manuscript processing.
  • Peer-review procedures.
  • Editorial misconduct.
  • Publication ethics.
  • Authorship disputes.
  • Conflicts of interest.
  • Allegations of research misconduct.
  • Published content.
  • Journal policies or administrative procedures.

All complaints should be submitted in writing with sufficient details and supporting documentation to enable a fair investigation.

Investigation Process

Upon receipt of a complaint or appeal, the Editorial Office will:

  • Acknowledge receipt of the complaint or appeal.
  • Conduct an initial assessment of the issue.
  • Obtain relevant information from the parties involved.
  • Review all available evidence objectively and confidentially.
  • Seek advice from the Editorial Board or independent experts when appropriate.
  • Resolve the matter in accordance with the journal's policies and COPE guidance.

Where necessary, the journal may communicate with authors' institutions, funding agencies, or other relevant organizations.

Resolution

Following the investigation, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Uphold the original editorial decision.
  • Reconsider the manuscript for editorial or peer review.
  • Request additional revisions or clarification.
  • Publish a correction, expression of concern, or retraction where appropriate.
  • Amend journal procedures to prevent similar issues in the future.
  • Take any other action considered necessary to maintain publication integrity.

The complainant or appellant will be informed of the outcome once the review has been completed.

Confidentiality

All complaints and appeals are handled confidentially. Information will be shared only with individuals directly involved in the investigation or where disclosure is necessary to ensure a fair and appropriate resolution.

Compliance with International Standards

The European Journal of Medical Practitioners (EJMP) manages complaints and appeals in accordance with the recommendations and COPE Flowcharts issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows the principles of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) to ensure a fair, transparent, and unbiased process.
